From Colorado State University to 35,000 Homes
Energy Sentry has been helping residential, commercial, and industrial customers lower their electric bills since 1978 — making us one of the longest-running demand management companies in the country.
The technology was first developed at Colorado State University, where engineer Bill Brayden was part of the original team that set out to solve what utilities couldn't: keeping buildings comfortable while holding demand low. Bill went on to found Brayden Automation Corporation in 1990, and the Energy Sentry product line has been the gold standard in demand control ever since.
In 1998, Brayden acquired powerline carrier technology from Southwood Electronics of Indianapolis, repackaging it for use with Energy Sentry demand controller systems. In 2001, the company expanded into electric power distribution by acquiring Solid State Instruments (SSI) of Denver — adding the most reliable pulse isolation products in the industry for interfacing between demand control, SCADA, and telemetry systems.
In 2005, Brayden built an all-electric headquarters in Loveland, Colorado — designed specifically as a real-world demonstration site for the company's demand control technology. Every product we sell runs in the building we work in, every day.
Today, the Energy Sentry 9388A represents nearly five decades of continuous refinement. New sensors, advanced relays, and integration with modern HVAC systems, EV chargers, and pool equipment have brought demand automation into the modern era of home electrification — while keeping the proven, reliable core that has made Energy Sentry the trusted name in demand control.
